SUMMARY:March Monthly meeting - March 21\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly meeting on March 21st at 7 pm. \n\nTim Lenz will be presenting “Birding Tech Evolution: eBird’s Impact and Beyond”\n \n Tim Lenz\, software developer\, lifelong birder\, and a recent Co-Founder of BirdingApp\, will be sharing a unique perspective on the timeline and development of some of the most popular and lesser-known eBird features. He will explore the impetus behind these features\, as well as their impact on conservation and the birding community. His presentation will conclude with an introduction to BirdingApp\, a new mobile app and social platform made to fit the unique needs of birders in the field.\n\n \nHere is Tim’s bio:\nTim Lenz\, software developer and lifelong birder\, is a recent Co-Founder of BirdingApp. He served as a key developer on the eBird project for 17 years at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. He has birded extensively throughout North and Central America\, Colombia\, and Australia. Tim relocated to Tennessee this past May\, captivated by the people\, the weather\, and the abundant birding opportunities. Originally from Reno\, Nevada\, Tim earned his B.S. and M.Eng. in Computer Science from Cornell University in Ithaca\, New York. \nHope to see you at the meeting!!

SUMMARY:March 23\, 2024 - Bledsoe State Park Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join Tim Loyd for an early spring outing to explore\nBledsoe Creek State Park located just east of Gallatin.\nBledsoe Creek packs a lot of different habitats into a rela-\ntively small area\, making it one of the top birding destina-\ntions in Sumner County. It contains a mix of bottomland\nforest\, a small marsh\, open water\, and upland forest\, all\neasily accessible via the network of trails that crisscross\nthe park. We will meet at 7:00 at the recently constructed\nvisitor center and start by working our way along the rela-\ntively flat lakeshore trail\, before heading up a short\, but\nsteep and somewhat strenuous incline to an area of up-\nland forest bordered by a large pasture. The trail then me-\nanders through the woods and ultimately back down to\nthe visitor center. The total distance is approx. 2.8 miles\nand we should wrap up late in the morning. Please dress\ninlayers\, and wear appropriate footwear. (Contact infor-\nmation: ms722@bellsouth.net. Please include “NTOS\nField Trip” in the subject line).
