SUMMARY:Field Trip - Saturday\, October 16th: Bells Bend Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the overgrown fields and forest edges of Bells Bend Park.  Bells Bend is a premier location for sparrows\, and by mid-October\, we should encounter several species as they are either migrating through or returning to spend the winter.  Last fall/winter\, the park was host to Vesper\, Nelson’s\, and LeConte’s Sparrows\, among the more common sparrow species\, so we will cross our fingers that we can scrounge up another goodie.  We’ll also search for any lingering neotropical migrants.  The morning will consist of a leisurely hike along the mowed paths as we start at the Outdoor Center\, then make a loop around several of the large overgrown fields\, and then back to the center.  We will meet at 7:00am and we should be done by lunchtime. Please note that the grass can be quite wet from the morning dew\, so wear appropriate footwear.  (Contact information: ms722@bellsouth.net  Please include “NTOS Field Trip” in the subject line.)

SUMMARY:Window Strike Project Reception - October 15th
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a reception on Friday\, October 15th at the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center for the opening of a living exhibit on the many ways to prevent birds from flying into windows.  This joint conservation project between our Chapter of TOS and Metro Parks have turned the windows of the Nature Center into a showcase for the materials\, from professionally installed to DIY projects\, that can protect birds from colliding with your windows. \n  \nThe reception will be from 5pm to 7pm and will include refreshments. Please keep in mind that Metro Parks requires masks in their nature centers.   We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate this long-awaited event.
