May 14th Field Trip – Larkspur Conservation Area

Come join Tim Loyd as he leads us on a tour of a relatively new birding hotspot in northern Sumner County.  As part of the Highland Rim, Larkspur contains one of the finest examples of mature hardwood forest in our region, and together with the adjacent Nature Conservancy property at Taylor Hollow they support one

May Monthly Meeting – May 19th

The monthly meeting of NTOS will take place on May 19th at Radnor Lake State Park Visitor's Center at 7 pm.  We will have our business meeting first followed by the evening's program.  It's free and open to the public.

**Recent geopolitical events have made this a tentative trip as this field trip takes place on an active military installation.  We will provide updates via TN-Birds, Facebook, and the NTOS website as we get closer to confirm if this field trip will take place. Hummingbird Festival at TNWR

Hummingbird Banding Demonstation at Cross Creeks NWR – Dover, TN

Join the Friends of Cross Creeks and Southeastern Avian Research for a morning of hummingbird banding.  There will be children's activities, a banding demonstation and inforamtional program.  8 am to 1 pm at the Refuge Headquarters on Saturday, August 27th.

Duck River Field Trip Saturday, September 10th….

Come join local birding expert and photographer Chris Sloan this Saturday as he leads a field trip to the Duck River unit of the TN NWR.  Shorebird migration is currently in full swing, and wading birds (herons and egrets) should still be present in good numbers as well.  Land bird migration is starting to tick

As anyone familiar with Middle Tennessee’s avifauna knows, the Duck River unit of the Tennessee NWR is one of the top birding hotspots in the region.  By early September, shorebird migration should be in full swing, and wading birds (herons and egrets) should still be present in good numbers.  Land bird migration should be ticking
