February 28th – Field Trip to Cornelia Fort Airpark – Davidson County

Loading Events

For our second field trip of the month, we’re staying close to home and heading to one of Nashville’s popular birding spots: Cornelia Fort Airpark in Shelby Bottoms Park. Trip leader Ariel Dunham, an expert on the birds of Shelby Park, will guide us on this outing on Saturday, February 28th.

This trip offers a unique twist: we’ll begin in the afternoon, exploring the ponds for waterfowl and sparrows as we make our way toward sunset. As dusk settles, we’ll keep our eyes on the open fields, hoping to catch a Short-eared Owl sweeping across the airpark.

We’ll meet at 3:30 PM at the Airpark parking area (Address: 2640 Airpark Dr Nashville, TN 37206; coordinates: 36.19080, -86.70387). Dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear as we’ll be navigating pasture areas around the ponds.

Plan to join us for an afternoon of late-winter birdwatching!

Please note: This field trip may be canceled if hazardous weather conditions arise. Any cancellations will be announced as soon as possible on the TN-Bird Listserv and NTOS’s social media accounts.
